It’s the third top-3 result for the 25-year-old athlete from Umea in a World Cup slalom. Last winter she was also a superb 3rd in the FIS World Championships slalom at Garmisch-Partenkirchen and finished the slalom World Cup standings in 4th place.
“I’m really happy with my skiing and my result today, I felt strong in training but you never how strong you are prior the first race, now I know that I’m again ready to fight for podium finishes,” the Rossignol star said after the race.
“This is certainly one of the most difficult slalom courses on the tour, there is a lot of terrain and it gives me a lot of confidence to see that I was able to fight for another win here this year,” added the winner of the City Event at Munich last January.
“The conditions were good even though very challenging with that hard packed snow which requires much energy and great skis too. The second run was particularly difficult and everybody was very tired – also because of the altitude. My main goal this season is to get among the top-3 in the final slalom standings,” also commented Maria who also aims to improve her giant slalom. Four years ago she won the silver medal in that specialty at the 2007 FIS Worlds at Are, in front of her fans.
