The season's most dominant marathon participant, Mathias Nothegger, crowns a successful year with his victory at the 38th Ötztaler Cycle Marathon! In the women's class Switzerland's Laila Orenos achieved the fifth victory in a row! The biggest surprise in Ötztal was former ÖSV Nordic combined athlete Patrick Hagenaars with an amputated arm, who finished third and made a dream come true! Yesterday the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon kicked off the most cycling-intensive September in the history of sports in Tirol! From 22 to 30 September the world's best cyclists compete for gold, silver and bronze at the UCI Road World Championships where today 4112 participants from 36 nations took part in the cult event for amateur cyclists, the 38th Ötztaler Cycle Marathon. Leading over four Alpine passes covering 5500 altitude meters and 238 kilometers. The weather conditions were anything but inviting: after steady rain on Saturday, it was damp and freezing at seven degrees Celsius this morning at the start in Sölden. Until Kühtai the participants were accompanied by quite heavy rain, further on towards Jaufen Pass the road was finally dry.
