Nike 6.0 Stairset Battle Tour 2010/11 – Finals at Nike 6.0 Air & Style, Olympic Stadium Munich

February 12, 2011 – Saving the best for last! For the Big Finals of the Stairset Battle Tour, 9 qualified tour winners battled it out against 9 of the world’s best jibbers in an epic contest. Finishing a successful tour throughout Europe, this was the final battle for $20,000 in prize money in front of a crowd of 17,000 spectators at Nike 6.0 Air & Style 2011 in Munich’s Olympic Stadium on 12 February.

Bringing this official TTR 3-Star event to the next level, the battle went down on an XXL-version of the stair set – a 20-stair behemoth replete with rails and marble ledges. Perfect for next level tricks – and the appropriate setting for premiering a rail jam in front of a mass audience for the first time!

Much to the delight of the audience, the level of tricks soared to new heights. During the 30-minute qualifying jams, the 9 Stairset Battle winners could hold their own against the 9 invited top pros. These “big names” included some of the world’s best jibbers, among them Eiki Helgason (ICE), Keegan Valaika (USA), Forest Bailey (USA), Wojtek Pawlusiak (POL) and many more.

The crowd was on its feet throughout the battle, pushing the riders to test their limits. In the end, selecting the “final 8” riders proved a seriously difficult task for the judges. Only one Stairset Battle Tour qualifier – Swiss rider Boris Bühler – made the cut, while Denis Leontyev from Russia closely missed it.

The level of tricks was amazing: Third place went to Forest Bailey with a FS Nose 270 off on the Close-Out Rail. Jamie Nicholls came in second with super consistent runs, proving he is no stranger to riding contests, and tricks like FS Blunt 270 to 50-50 BS 180 out on lock.

With an incredible performance, US-pro Mike Casanova took 1st place, topping things off with his “winning trick” on his last run – a picture-perfect Hardway Cab 270 to FS Nose!

“All the riders supported each other, the audience was cheering. I am pumped, it was amazing!”, said a stoked Mike Casanova.

This ends a highly successful tour and we hope that the Stairset Battle series has provided a glimpse of the shape of things to come in jibbing and rail jams.

We would like to give a big thanks to all the competitors and supporters of the Stairset Battle Tour! It’s been a blast!
